Fabric + Cardstock = CARDS

I haven't done and paper crafting in years...and yet I've been quite the paper crafter this week! A friend from church invited me to join a monthly card swapping party. My only problem...I don't have any scrapbook materials anymore. I have a ton of paper left...but no embellishments. What to do...use my huge fabric stash of course!

The great thing about mixing cardstock + fabric is that you can make cute cards using all of those left over sewing scraps!

Here are few of my favorite. To make these card I cut out three circles: Large, Medium and Small. I looked for cute pictures from the fabric for the small circles.

Then layer the 3 circles on the front side of your card. Using a zigazg stitch, sew all around the circle.

For the inside of the card, simply cut a colored piece of card stock 1/2" smaller than the card (so there will be a white border)

If I had more time I would hand stitch with embroidery floss around the front of the card. You could also add buttons (hand stitch or hot glue) or other embellishments that you have on hand.

I have 10 more cards to make before the party tonight. Check back tomorrow for a cute Happy Birthday card idea using cupcake fabric!

Simply Sewn Valentines

While I'm sure kids are just fine with receiving Tinkerbell valentines day cards...but is it just me or are simple handmade cards just so much cuter? And really, they take as much time as you would take loading up the kids in the minivan and heading over to Walmart.

To make this easy peasy Valentine card you'll need felt, cardstock, cute scrapbook paper and a sewing machine of course. Also pinking shears are optional.

Cut your cardstock into four rectangles. Cut out hearts out of the felt using your pinking shears. Make sure the heart fits onto your cardstock.

Set your sewing machine to the zigzag stitch and set it at the widest setting. My machine is digital and I set my zigzag to 7.0.

Leaving a 1/4 inch margin, sew around heart.

Print "Happy Valentines Day" onto cute scrapbook paper (see links below). Cut out with pinking shears and clue to opposite side of cardstock. Have your cutie sign and they are ready to pass out!

What did I say...easy peasy!
